Dear Campus Community,
As we learned from an email sent by President Byerly, Mike Szydelko ‘20 died in late April. I am writing with an update regarding plans to honor his memory and mourn the loss to our community.
First, the brothers of Chi Phi are working on plans to hold a philanthropic event to honor Mike and to raise money for a scholarship in his name. More details will be available once we know more about when such in-person gatherings will be possible. The hope is that an event can be held sometime during the 2020-21 academic year.
In the meantime, Chi Phi President Jack Chelstowski will be collecting photos of Mike to share them with Mike’s family. Please email Jack with photos and a few words of sympathy or stories about Mike that you think his family would appreciate knowing.
Thanks to all who have taken the time to recognize the loss our community has experienced with Mike’s death. I would like to especially thank Kaila Aguerre ‘20, who spoke in memory of both Mike and of Maddie Smart ‘20, during the Baccalaureate celebration for the Class of 2020.
Please feel free to contact me or the Counseling Center if you would like to discuss this or any other loss you may be grieving during this difficult time.
Truly yours,
Chaplain Alex Hendrickson
