To Every Member of the Lafayette Community,

As the College wisely pivots to a semester of distance learning, the Department of Theater is creating strategies for continuing to educate our students and to provide our audiences with live theater—albeit in virtual form.

The department is developing an online production of original work written by members of the Lafayette community—not just students and faculty, but support staff, administrators, grounds crew, food service workers, Public Safety officers, coaches, IT wizards, and residents of College Hill.

COVID-19, the pandemic, distance learning, racism, religious intolerance, friendships, open and closed borders, global relationships, Black Lives Matter, uncertainties of foreign students: The World in 2020 from a Lafayette perspective. We are calling this endeavor, of which we hope you will be a part, Behind The Masks. Your original writing will be rehearsed and performed by Lafayette theater students, alumni, and members of Hudson Theater Works.

Here’s what you need to know:
• What you write and submit must be original.
• It should be able to be performed in one to five minutes.
• Monologues are welcome; so are short scenes, poetry, and original songs.
• You will not need to perform your work, although you may if you want to do so.
• Anonymous pieces are discouraged.
• Email your submission to oneillm@lafayette.edu as either an attachment or embedded in the message.
• Deadline for submissions: Monday, Sept. 14.
