A group of Black student leaders organized under the name “Dear Lafayette College” has advanced a series of goals for more substantive and rapid progress in the College’s fight against racism and its promotion of equality and equity. The students will be meeting with several groups and administrative leaders in the coming weeks, beginning with a meeting tonight organized by Rob Young, director of intercultural development, followed soon by meetings with the DEI Council and President Byerly. Issues related to curriculum and student support also were discussed at a recent meeting of academic department and program heads and chairs. Student Government also is discussing steps toward becoming more representative of the student body and plans to have dialogue with Dear Lafayette College about how it can provide support.
