Mary Toulouse, director of the foreign languages and literatures resource center and French professor, had her eye on the storm back in January when we first started hearing about the possibility of a coronavirus outbreak. Because of her advocacy, our department (30 faculty and staff along with 250 students enrolled in language classes) were trained to use Zoom well before the College went online in the spring. Since then, she has quietly and gently helped us build a community of practice with faculty and students here and across LVAIC to showcase and provide access to and training in a variety of technologies that enhance our capacity to teach and learn languages and world cultures in a remote environment. Merci bien, Mary! — Prof. Michelle Geoffrion-Vinci, Foreign Languages & Literatures
