A year ago, the crew team was planning to leave for Tennessee for spring break training. Plans change, and when the trip, the season, and all the regattas were canceled, so did the plans of head coach Rick Kelliher. He made virtual training programs for athletes, then went into his woodshop and got to work—cranking out dozens of hand sanitizer stations, among other things. If it’s maroon and made of wood on campus, chances are Rick made it. He also made two plywood and fiberglass rowing singles for team members to train in while remaining socially distant. And since returning to campus, the team has had a 0% COVID-19 positivity rate. —Derek Richmond, assistant coach, crew club
