Power has been restored to the largest dining venues and the majority of residence halls. The following residential buildings remain without electricity because they are powered by independent Met-Ed meters, not the campus substation and generator: 2 West, 4 West, Delta Upsilon, Conway House, Alpha Phi, and Pi Beta Phi. Some students in off-campus residences also are without power. Most College facilities are without power and not operational, including Kirby Sports Center. Facilities staff and Met-Ed are working tirelessly to restore service as quickly as possible.
The water level of the Delaware River is at 21.03 feet as of 5:30 am. Flood stage is considered to be 22 feet, which is expected to be exceeded today. A peak level of 28.5 feet is expected to be reached at about 4 a.m. Friday.
Marquis, Farinon, and Trolley Stop diner are open. Smaller venues such as Simon’s and Gilbert’s might be operational. Standard dining hours apply at each location.
There will be no classes taught in person today. Faculty members should decide if their classes can appropriately be taught remotely or if they will be cancelled and made up later. Some students do not have power and therefore won’t be able to join remotely.
Communication between faculty and students is important. Faculty should reach out early to their students by email and/or on Moodle and let them know what the procedure for today’s classes will be. Students should monitor their emails and check their course Moodle sites for messages from their instructors.
Due to the possibility of flooding of the Delaware River and Bushkill Creek, all arts campus facilities (248 N. Third Street, Williams Visual Arts Building, Buck Hall) are closed today. The College is carefully monitoring water levels, which will increase throughout the day, and is prepared to respond if flooding may impact these buildings.
Administrative offices will be closed on campus and operating virtually today. The nature of some jobs requires certain essential staff members to be at their workplace. Those working remotely and those normally working on campus but able to work remotely should do so unless family needs require their attention.
