Consider taking a class taught by the Gilbert & Sullivan Players.
New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players (NYGASP) are the 2021/22 Alan and Wendy Pesky Artists in Residence at Lafayette. Celebrating its 46th year, NYGASP is America’s preeminent professional Gilbert and Sullivan repertory company.
In the spring, NYGASP will teach Music 272/372: Experiencing Opera: Gilbert and Sullivan, an introduction to the duo’s comic operas.
The course will be on Thursdays from 7-9:50 p.m. It will include training in acting, singing, dancing, stage-managing, and directing for an end-of-semester performance.
Not into performing? No worries. Students have the option of concentrating on the scripts as literary and historical documents of Victorian society and culture.
Anchoring all of this will be a general introduction to the history of Victorian England.
Established in 1986, the Pesky endowment has brought notable musicians to perform and teach in residency at Lafayette.
