The Markle Parking Deck will be unavailable starting Wednesday. During January, admissions visitors will be able to park in the lot at 901 Bushkill Street.
From the conclusion of finals through early January, McCartney Street between March Street and Clinton Terrace will be closed periodically for demolition of the houses to create the temporary parking lot at the 100 block of McCartney Street, which will be open at the beginning of February. The plan is to construct the temporary lot over the winter break, when there are fewer people on campus, and have it online for the spring semester.
Construction of the fifth-floor expansion of Acopian Engineering Center is scheduled to begin after the final exam period in conjunction with the Markle deck project. The overlap of the Markle deck and Acopian expansion projects is intended to minimize disruption to that area of campus. Acopian’s fifth floor does not extend to the east side of the facility. The 4,000-square-foot expansion will add three high-tech classrooms and a glass collaboration center, supporting the Engineering Division’s growth. Steel installation will take place over winter break.
Fencing around the perimeter of the sites will be installed along with signs indicating any pathways/sidewalks that are closed. North Campus Lane behind Markle Hall will be closed for the duration of construction. The construction entrance will be off Hamilton Street in front of Oechsle, with construction vehicles frequently traveling along Hamilton Street to get materials in and out of the site.
