Dear Campus Community,
In the short time that I have served as president, I have come to appreciate just how special the sense of community is here. Clearly, we are bonded not only through a common sense of purpose as an educational institution but also through the care that we have for one another.
It is also heartening to see that this concern is not confined to our campus. There is an impressive commitment to serving locally and to civic engagement.
It is with this in mind that I am announcing the launch of our United Way Campaign, which will provide vital financial support to many nonprofit organizations in our area. The campaign starts today and runs through Feb. 28. Please consider joining me and many others by participating. Contributions designated after Jan. 10 will begin with the February paycheck; after Feb. 10, the March paycheck.
You can make a gift to the United Way online**. If you have given in the past, your pledge does not roll over automatically—it must be renewed. If you have not given previously, please make this the year that you start!
Now more than ever, the United Way’s programs in areas such as education, food access, and emergency services are critical. The United Way continues its leadership role in convening community partners to align COVID-19 response initiatives. In addition, it has led important conversations and invested in community-led solutions to address racial justice and equity.
Our participation in the United Way campaign is an important way that we demonstrate our commitment to the larger community. At a time when needs are so great, I hope that you will consider participating.
