Ash Wednesday is on Wednesday, March 2 this year. Ash Wednesday is a Christian holiday that recognizes the first day of Lent (the season of penitence that leads up to Easter.) The practice of having ashes placed on one’s forehead symbolizes repentance and contrition.
There are three ways to participate in Ash Wednesday on campus:
1) An 8:15 a.m. service led by Chaplain Alex Hendrickson will take place in Interfaith Chapel (on the 1st floor of Hogg Hall).
2) Ashes-to-Go in the Farinon Atrium between 11 a.m.-1 p.m. If you cannot come in the 11-1 timeframe, please email Chaplain Alex Hendrickson to schedule a different time to drop by her office in Farinon 107 to receive your ashes.
3) Catholic Mass at 12:15 p.m. in Colton Chapel. This traditional Catholic Mass will welcome the Lenten season.
If you are looking for an off-campus service for Ash Wednesday, please email Chaplain Hendrickson with details about what you are looking for.
May you have a Holy Lent, for those who observe this season.
