Africana Studies is pleased to welcome Jori Lewis, a University of Chicago graduate of Anthropology, and an award-winning independent writer and editor who writes about the environment and agriculture mostly from the Global South. She will be visiting the Africana Studies program on Oct. 6 to discuss her new book, “Slaves for Peanuts”, about how demand for peanut oil in Europe ensured that slavery in Africa would persist well into the 20th century, long after the European powers had officially banned it in the territories they controlled. Join AFS in OCGE 107 at 12:15 p.m. Oct. 6 for this exciting lecture! Lunch will be available. MORE
