Professor Bookwala to become provost at Gettysburg College

Dear Colleagues,

As was announced to the Gettysburg College community Wednesday, Jamila Bookwala, professor of psychology, will become the next provost of Gettysburg College in the summer of 2023. Jamila served in administrative roles at Lafayette for a total of six years, first as dean of curriculum and research, then dean of academic initiatives, and most recently as dean of the faculty. Over the past three years, as dean of the faculty, Jamila oversaw dozens of faculty searches, where she had a pivotal role in advancing our efforts to ensure that inclusive search practices are an integral part of the faculty culture. Her leadership has been critical to diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts across the campus. Jamila was selected as a 2021-22 Fellow of the American Council for Academic Deans and is serving on the American Psychological Association’s Board of Scientific Affairs Taskforce on Inequities in Promotion and Tenure.
