Ensemble Basiani is keeper of a choral tradition that is unique to the Republic of Georgia. In repertoire spanning the 7th to 13th centuries, this 12-member, all-male choir of the Tbilisi Holy Trinity Cathedral Church embraces the religious hymns, monastic chants, epic ballads, and folk and work songs of their homeland. By researching and reviving music from historical sources, Basiani captures the complex harmonies and melodic yodeling of Georgian polyphony.
