Professor Dana Cuomo (Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies) has been awarded an Information Literacy Grant for Spring 2023.
Students in Professor Cuomo’s WGS 285 Feminist Research Design will explore who can produce ‘expert’ knowledge and engage with feminist epistemology and alternative ways of knowing. In their critique of traditional research methods, they will draw on class readings to discuss the limitations of such methodologies and how feminist research design can help address these limitations. Over the course of the semester, students will develop a research proposal that include a knowledge review and an outline of the research design and data collection procedures. The knowledge review will situate students’ research interests in existing theoretical debates and incorporate knowledge outside of traditional academic sources. In their full proposal, students will also highlight ethical issues that might arise from their project and how they anticipate addressing these concerns; the significance of their project and its broader implications; and the distribution of their findings, including different venues and formats. Professor Cuomo will collaborate with Lijuan Xu on her course.
