Over the summer, the Lafayette Grounds Department received a gift of two new E-GO battery operated mowers from Hearst Publishing Company in Downtown Easton. As part of a joint venture between Facilities Operations and Roy Berendsohn of Popular Mechanics magazine, an agreement was made for the testing of electric mowers to be performed at the Metzgar Fields athletics complex in exchange for the mowers when the tests concluded. Testing was performed throughout the 2022-23 academic year for research purposes and have been published in Popular Mechanics magazine and their website as part of their ongoing reporting on battery-powered lawn equipment.
