At the current time, Lafayette faculty policies for generative AI are all over the map. This workshop will help faculty who have prohibited student use of large language models (e.g. ChatGPT) recognize the features of synthetic prose. How do we know if it is synthetic prose or just a paper edited by a parent? What are some of the linguistic features of generated prose? Can we tell if a student is using a LLM to write and not just using an assistive tool like grammarly? What is the status of detection software?
