Learn about Ilha Do Arvoredo, a fully sustainable island off the coast of Brazil bought by 1924 alumnus Fernando Lee. A trailblazer, Lee had a vision to transform the island from a barren rock into a demonstration center for the application of nature-based design and sustainable systems. Students in Prof. David Brandes‘ Environment & Energy Systems Engineering class are collaborating with the Nova MarĂ© Institute, the island’s overseeing body, to develop preliminary design plans for upgrades and renovations with a focus on enhancing the water and energy systems. Students traveled to the island over Spring Break.
Tues., May 7, 4-6 p.m. in AEC 511 (or join virtually via Zoom link in calendar listing).
