The Office of Religious and Spiritual Life will be sharing lists of religious holidays that occur each month so that the campus community can be aware of the celebrations and honored dates.
Dec. 1–24 – Advent – Christianity- Four-week season in Christianity leading up to the birth of Jesus on Christmas.
Dec. 8 Bodhi Day – Buddhism – commemorates the day that the historical Buddha, Siddhartha Gautama (Shakyamuni), experienced enlightenment.
Dec. 8 Immaculate Conception – Christianity – Catholic feast day and Holy Day of Obligation that commemorates the belief that Mary was conceived without original sin.
Dec. 12 Our Lady of Guadalupe – Christianity – Catholic feast day for people in Mexico and in the United States to celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe on December 12. Mary is the Patron Saint of Mexico and Patroness of the Americas.
Dec. 21 Yule – Wiccan/Pagan – day of the winter solstice in the Northern Hemisphere.
Dec. 25 Christmas
Dec. 25, 2024 – Jan. 2, 2025 – Hanukkah – Judaism – known as the Festival of Lights; a Jewish holiday that celebrates the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem after a group of Jewish fighters liberated it in the 2nd century BC.
