Social media has many benefits, such as maintaining long-distance friendships, exploring identities, and engaging with hobbies. However, it also comes with risks like distraction from daily tasks, misinformation, cyberbullying, negative self-comparison, and sleep disruption. It can amplify our emotions, either fostering social connection or intensifying loneliness, depending on our experiences. To manage digital overload, try taking a “digital detox,” which involves implementing intentional breaks from screens for minutes, hours, days, or weeks to regain balance and presence in daily life. A digital detox can help you recharge and reconnect with yourself and your surroundings. Give your eyes and mind a break. Think about disconnecting to reconnect with yourself and others.
