The Spirit of Water: Cultural and Environmental Perspectives in Japan—an interdisciplinary course to be offered winter 2026 abroad, led by Profs. Hongxing Liu (economics) and Mathieu Smith-Perrot (French)—examines the multifaceted role of water in Japanese society, exploring its cultural symbolism, environmental challenges, economic significance, and political implications.
