Christa Kelleher, assistant professor of civil and environmental engineering, joined community leaders—including State Rep. Robert Freeman—at Scott Park July 24 as part of the Extreme Weather Emergency Tour, a national campaign organized by the Climate Action Campaign to highlight how intensifying climate events are affecting communities across the country. As an expert in hydrology and climate impacts on water systems, Kelleher emphasized the scientific realities behind the region’s worsening weather patterns. Among her recommendations were sustained investment in both green and gray infrastructure, the protection of wetlands, and forward-looking planning that avoids placing developments in flood-prone areas.
