Lafayette made a strong showing at GeoCongress 2026. Alessia Costanzo ’28 earned first place in the national GeoPoster competition (with co-author Sophia Pedrazzi ’28), and Shanza Asif ’27 took second. Andrew Manni ’27, Katherine Bariahtaris ’27, Ashley McElroy ’27, and Asif received honorable mention in the Geo-Video competition for a video created in CE 361 Geotechnical Engineering.

Mike McGuire, professor of civil and environmental engineering and department head, led a course on the newly updated Foundations and Earth Structures Design Manual (DM 7.2). He was one of four authors on the revision and is helping to bring this first-in-decades revision to the field. Nancy Ingabire Abayo, assistant professor of civil and environmental engineering, directed the graduate GeoPoster category and continues her leadership as vice chair of the G-I Younger Member Committee.
