Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies would like to announce the winners of the Armstrong Award in LGBTQ+ Studies and the Basow Award in Women’s and Gender Studies.

The Armstrong Award recognizes a student who has made a significant contribution to LGBTQ+ studies through research or a project related to advancing the community’s interests. Their work reflects personal courage and investment in queer empowerment. This year’s Armstrong Award recipient is Meredith McGee ’23. She’s known around campus for co-founding OUT, Lafayette’s student organization for LGBTQ+ individuals and allies.

The Basow Award recognizes a student who has made a significant contribution to Women’s and Gender Studies. Their contribution increases our knowledge of Women’s and Gender Studies and improves the lives of those disadvantaged by their gender. This year’s Basow Award recipient is Libby Mayer ’22. She is the co-president for Pards Against Sexual Assault and was integral to the development of Empowered Consent, a tailored, peer-led sexual violence program for first-year student orientation.
