Construction starts Aug. 22 for Easton/College Hill Escarpment Hike-Bike Trail
Construction of the Easton/College Hill Escarpment Hike-Bike Trail will begin on Mon., Aug. 22. Find alternate transportation options here.
Designed by Pennoni Associates, the project will make substantial improvements to the existing pedestrian pathway connecting Downtown Easton with the College Hill neighborhood and add a new walking and bicycling trail between the Karl Stirner Arts Trail and South College Drive (near the intersection with McCartney Street). The project will ensure safe, public access throughout the year and reduce reliance on motor vehicles. Amenities will include better lighting, new seating areas, and locations for displaying artwork. A centerpiece will be the restoration of the 150-year-old memorial honoring the sacrifice of 16 Lafayette College alumni during the Civil War. The contractor, Bi-State Construction, will begin work along the southern edge of Lafayette College’s main campus on the south escarpment overlooking North Third Street. The existing path will be closed to pedestrians while the area is under construction. The trails will open upon completion in June 2023.
