A new INDS course is being offered this spring semester–Being Human in STEM. INDS 253 is a seminar and project-based course that examines the lack of diversity in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) by exploring individual narratives and research on how gender, race/ethnicity, sexuality, (dis)ability, and other identities impact academic and professional experiences in STEM. We will read and evaluate the literature on evidence-based interventions to enhance the policies, practices, and culture of STEM. Students will collaborate on research projects to foster greater inclusion, diversity, equity, and access in STEM at Lafayette and beyond. All majors are welcome to enroll. There are no prerequisites. The course fulfills the GM1 requirement of the Common Course of Study. If you have questions, please contact Dr. Wendy Hill, director of the Hanson Center for Inclusive STEM Education.
