Dear Lafayette Parents and Families:

I write to share with you the Board of Trustees’ recent decision on tuition and fees for the 2023-24 academic year. We appreciate the serious financial commitment a college education requires, and we remain dedicated to providing our students with an exceptional residential college experience.

Following its deliberations, the board approved a 5.5% increase in the cost of attendance for returning students for the 2023-24 academic year. The total cost of attendance will be $80,114, which breaks down as follows:

  • Tuition: $61,482
  • Room: $11,310 (Rate 1)
  • Board: $6,980 (20-meal plan)
  • Student Activity Fee: $342

Despite the continuing inflationary increases affecting higher education and our economy, the College continues making investments in the impactful educational opportunities that Lafayette provides. In the past year, we filled 11 tenure-line faculty positions across the disciplines. In the current year, we are filling 20 tenure-line faculty positions, including seven new positions. These outstanding new colleagues add to the excellence of our faculty and the high standard they set for teaching, mentoring, and scholarship.

This year, among other facility improvements, we will also complete extensive renovations on the Acopian Engineering Center, where last fall we opened a highly sophisticated robotics lab; create the new Leopard’s Lair student multipurpose space in Farinon; make further improvements to the Markle Parking Deck, which reopened last summer after a major expansion; and add a new Welcome Center connected to Markle Hall and the new parking structure, besides enjoying the first full year of the newly transformed Portlock Black Cultural Center and recent upgrades to our residence halls. We are grateful to the donors whose generous support makes capital projects like these possible, in addition to all they do to support financial aid, scholarships, faculty, the residential experience, and more.

Most of all, we celebrate the success of our graduates. With a 92% response rate to our post-graduate survey, 98% of students in the class of 2022 reported being employed, continuing their education, and/or doing other meaningful life work (e.g., volunteering, traveling, interning, and preparing graduate/professional school applications) within six months of graduation.

Thank you for entrusting your child’s college education to Lafayette. If your financial circumstances have changed or will present a challenge in the coming year, please contact the Office of Financial Aid at 610-330-5055 or financialaid@lafayette.edu. Best wishes to you and your family.

Sincerely,

President Nicole Hurd
