Join the McKelvy Scholars Program for it’s weekly discussion. This week’s topic is “Jail: Punishment or Progress?” Most people have watched and enjoyed shows like Criminal Minds and Prison Break, but the real world presents a different picture. While crime has always been a part of human behavior, the approaches to punishment and discipline have evolved significantly over time. Despite these changes, imprisonment—a practice dating back to 1000 B.C.—has remained a constant. This prompts the question of whether incarceration is still the most effective form of punishment today, and, if not, what is? The themes of recidivism, rehabilitation, and reform will be explored. 6–8 p.m. Sun., Sept. 22 • McKelvy House, 200 High Street • MORE
