Susan Grunewald ’11 will discuss her recently published book From Incarceration to Repatriation: German Prisoners of War in the Soviet Union. This talk will discuss the fate of the 1.5 million German prisoners of war held in the Soviet Union during and after World War II. Soviet officials released the last men in 1956, 11 years after the war’s end. It delves into why the Soviets imprisoned the Germans for so long, their daily lives in Soviet captivity, and Soviet-German Cold War relations concerning the long-lasting incarceration. 12:15-1:15 p.m. Thurs., April 17 Skillman Library, Gendebien Room MORE
