The Controller’s Office recently became aware that effective Jan. 1, the earned income tax (EIT) rate to nonresident commuters is 1%. This nonresident EIT is levied on those who commute to work in Easton. If the tax rates for the resident and workplace jurisdictions differ, employers must withhold at the higher of the two rates.

Because of this change, the Payroll Department will update the EIT withholding rates for employees who are nonresident commuters. Any amounts over withheld as of Jan. 1 will be refunded in the next applicable payroll.

Employees are encouraged to check their current EIT withholding rate and alert the Payroll Department of any changes to be made. Check your current EIT withholding rate using the Keystone Collections website. Enter your home and work address, click “View Information,” and check the EIT withholding percentage under “Total Taxes to be Withheld” section.
