Nancy Ingabire Abayo, assistant professor of civil and environmental engineering, was featured in Geostrata, the magazine of ASCE’s Geo-Institute, and selected to represent the United States at the International Young Geotechnical Engineers Conference in Graz, Austria, held in advance of the International Conference on Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering in Vienna. The quadrennial forum brings together leading engineers under 35 to share research, exchange ideas, and build global collaborations around emerging geotechnical challenges. Abayo also received the 2026 Younger Members Award from the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute, honoring early-career members whose service and leadership expand opportunities and impact for younger professionals.
