Fisher Quad is getting a major upgrade this summer. Construction is set to begin Mon., July 20 on the new Fisher Quad Sports Court, which will offer space for pickleball, basketball, and volleyball.
Geoff Labe, assistant vice president operations, says the project is a way to activate and enhance one of Lafayette’s outdoor spaces, and should be open before the start of the fall semester.
“It’s a really cool, student-focused project,” Labe says.
Construction is expected to take approximately three weeks, with construction planned 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday (weather dependent).
Labe notes that lockers will be installed in the lobby of Simon’s Market, inside Kamine Hall, where students will be able to use their Pard Card to check out equipment at any time.
The multi use court is funded by Student Government, says Allison Williams, associate director student involvement-leadership development and student orgs. “They wanted something intentional that would build community and serve students for many years to come.”
An April article in The Lafayette noted Student Government’s proposal involved collaboration from Residence Life, Facilities, and Recreation Services. After several voting sessions, Student Government worked with campus partners to explore options and determine the best use for the space.
“It would be remiss of me not to mention how grateful I am to have worked with such an amazing group of individuals and to have this opportunity to provide something so fun to the Lafayette community,” says William Bennett ’28, a senator with Student Government. “I look forward to seeing the product of so many people’s hard work, but I look forward most to sharing the happiness I currently feel with the Lafayette community as we enjoy this new sports court.”
