The Lafayette College Writing Program offers access to academic resources, tutoring, writing programs, resources, and events.
“Everyone benefits from getting feedback and talking out their ideas about their process with other people,” says Emma Hetrick, associate director of writing associates.
- Beyond coursework support: Lafayette’s Writing Program has a staff of writing associates (WAs), who partner with professors to guide students through writing and communication assignments. In addition to facilitating conferences with students in CWP-affiliated courses at any stage of the writing process. Beyond aid with coursework, WAs can help students with personal writing, creative writing, etc. during drop-in hours! To schedule an appointment through WCOnline, the software that CWP uses for drop-in, visit MyLafayette.edu and click on “Get Writing Help” under the “Taking Classes” section. You can also go directly to the website, or click on “Schedule a Drop-in Appointment” on the CWP homepage. First time visitors will need to create an account. You’re also welcome to just “drop by!”
- Location and drop-in hours: The Writing Center is located in Pardee, Room 319 and Skillman, Room 105. Drop-in hours are held on a consistent basis Sunday-Thursday. In Watt College Writing Room (Pardee 319), drop-in hours are 3-5.p.m., and in Skillman 105, drop-in hours are 7-9 p.m.
- You can become a WA: Students can apply to be writing associates via Google Forms, which often come out during the spring semester. Students will be able to apply and go through the interview process. Being a WA is counted as Federal Work Study if a student is eligible!
- Workshops: The Writing Center hosts workshops to engage students in various genres of writing. Hetrick notes that workshop topics may include personal statements for graduate school, resumes and cover letters, and conference abstract proposals.
- Dog-friendly environment: In Pardee 319, students will occasionally see program administrators’ dogs in the space.
- WA conferences: Every semester, there are about 50-70 WAs on staff, and each year they hold over 6,000 conferences!
