Events in September/October

Friday, Sept. 25 – High-Impact Educational Practices: An Overview of Various Offices and Centers – This will involve an overview of various centers at Lafayette and the resources they provide. Participants also will have the opportunity to engage in breakout sessions to ask specific questions. Join via Zoom.

Tuesday, Sept. 29 – Working with the Media – An expert from RW Jones Agency will discuss how the media works and what reporters want from scholars; review how to respond to media opportunities and build confidence with media engagement; and introduce faculty and staff to tools to connect with general audiences, including understanding how their expertise fits into the public conversation and explaining their research to non-experts. Friday, Oct. 2 – Information Literacy Brownbag – Professors Caroline Sequin and Chris Lee (history) will host a lunchtime discussion on how they integrated information literacy into their respective courses: History 354 Modern France and French Empire and History 217 Settler Colonialism in World History.

Thursday, Oct. 8 – Mental Illness Awareness Week Events. Register for either or both of the following events:

  • 12:15 – 1:15 pm: Inclusive Teaching & Excellence: Supporting Our Students’ Mental Health Through COVID-19 and Beyond – This is a challenging time for higher education with mental well-being already of increasing concern for our students pre-COVID-19. The impacts of social isolation, sickness and death, and other disruptions caused by COVID-19 necessitate conversations and recommendations around supporting students’ mental health. A panel consisting of a guest expert on mental health, the counseling center, a Lafayette student, and a Lafayette faculty member will discuss these important issues with the community.
