An illustration of two African women for the  Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi. I read this gorgeous book in 2019 and regularly recommend it to friends. Two half-sisters born in 18th-century Ghana in separate villages grow up to lead very different lives! Gyasi’s luminous language and expansive storytelling are a powerful combination, supporting her generations of characters to an ending that the reader will not be surprised by, but will still delight in.

Her new novel, Transcendent Kingdom, is what convinced me to finally join Book of the Month club this September!
