A black and white film scene of zombiesRaphael Koenig of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Harvard University will talk about “Zombie Epidemics and Literary Modernity in I.L. Peretz’s Yiddish Short Story ‘The Dead Town'” via Zoom on Wednesday at 4:15 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures.

The talk will situate the story within the broader context of representations of spirit possession and the undead in Yiddish literature, while also analyzing this text as a multilayered, paradoxical reflection on the birth of Yiddish—and Jewish—modernity.
