Gladys Millheim opens a present at her Lafayette retirement party. The retiree, who worked for more than 50 years at the College, passed away on May 9 at age 94.

“She worked in the Controller’s Office for many years,” says Ellen Leslie, assistant to the vice president of finance and administration. “Even after retiring she always came back for the support staff holiday luncheon, remembered each person’s name, and always had a smile for everyone she greeted.”

“I worked with Gladys for about three years,” says Jill Snyder, associate director of facilities operations finance. “She was a bookkeeper and processed journal entries into the Banner system, which back then were mostly manually entered into the system. I remember Gladys as diligent about her work and very dependable as well.”

“When Gladys started at Lafayette, everything was done by pencils, not computers,” notes Kathy Churchill, accounting technician, finance and business administration, adding that both of Gladys’ daughters graduated from Lafayette.

As she retired from Lafayette, notes Jill, Gladys received a letter from President George W. Bush congratulating her on her years of service to the College.
