Tommy LeeTommy Lee joined the Office of Intercultural Development this summer as the new assistant director for gender and sexuality programs.

Tommy is eagerly looking forward to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion at Lafayette and collaborating with faculty, staff, and students to cultivate an affirming, welcoming, and safe campus.

During his first semester, he plans to complete a community needs assessment to better understand what Lafayette has achieved in the past, outline the community’s thoughts and priorities, and identify goals for the future. Beyond that, he has been working to make connections on campus with potential partners and begin program planning for the fall semester and LGBTQIA+ History Month in October.

An early priority for Tommy was to reimagine and relaunch the Gender and Sexuality Resource Center (GRSC) in Farinon. Underutilized in past years, the GSRC is reopening as a central hub for students to access educational information, link to additional campus support offices, and be in a safe, comfortable space for community building. The center also will provide a way to reach out to and train students, faculty, and staff to be better allies. As the sign outside the center indicates, everyone is welcome to access and use the space regardless of whether you consider yourself a member of the LGBTQIA+ community.

The Gender and Sexuality Resource Center in the Farinon CenterThe GSRC will be open daily with a weekly schedule of events and programs posted on the door. Students also can email Tommy to reserve the space for club meetings, programming, or just to gather informally with peers.

To reintroduce the Lafayette community to the GSRC, the open houses are planned:

  • Students: Monday, noon-1 p.m. and 5-6 p.m.
  • Faculty and staff: Tuesday, 8-10 a.m.

Everyone is invited to stop by the GSRC in the coming weeks to meet Tommy, explore available resources, and get involved with a number of student groups. You also can reach out virtually by emailing leeth@lafayette.edu or exploring gsp.lafayette.edu.
