Kojiro Umezaki plays the shakuhachi, a bamboo flute.The master of the shakuhachi bamboo flute and member of Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road Ensemble will join contemporary chamber music trailblazers Hub New Music for an evening of eastern and western musical traditions. Tied Together is a conversation in a cross-continental partnership that includes compositions by Chad Cannon, Sun Young Park, Angel Lam, and Takuma Itoh.

Faculty and staff: $10. Students attend free. Reservations are required.

In addition to the concert, Hub New Music will perform new compositions by Anna Zittle ’22 and Justin Kogasaka ’22 at noon on Sept. 14 at the Williams Center for the Arts.

Kojiro will meet with Larry Stockton’s percussion ensemble on Sept. 13, 6:30-8:30 p.m., and Jorge Torres’ World Music Traditions class on Sept. 14, 1:15-2:30 p.m. Attendance is dependent on permission from the professors.
