The Hanson Center seeks a faculty member to serve as the next Faculty Director of the Summer Program for Academic Leadership in STEM (SPAL). SPAL is a strength-based summer transition program for incoming students with an interest in STEM whose identities (e.g. gender, race, sexuality, 1st generation) are minoritized in STEM at Lafayette. The goal of the program is to improve retention, belonging, and academic success of these students.

This is a wonderful leadership opportunity for a faculty member interested in working with a dynamic and dedicated team of colleagues to help advance inclusive excellence in STEM and have an impact on the next generation of STEM leaders at Lafayette and beyond.

The SPAL Faculty Director leads the curricular and co-curricular program and oversees the day-to-day schedule. The Faculty Director will need to be available during the six-weeks of Summer Session II and for planning meetings in advance of the launch of the program. We are especially interested in appointing a faculty member who not only enjoys engaging with students and faculty, but is also committed to helping the Hanson Center reflect on the success of SPAL and collaborate on future programming for SPAL. The Faculty Director receives a stipend for their work.

SPAL is part of a suite of programs offered by the Hanson Center for Inclusive STEM Education. Please contact Wendy Hill or Jenn Rossmann, Co-Directors of the Hanson Center, if you have questions and want to learn more. If you would like to be considered for the position, please send a brief statement of interest via this form by Friday, March 11th.
