Do you know a student who is passionate about a research topic or project? Would they be interested in a paid, six-week program where they would engage with digital tools and create a digital research project? The Digital Humanities Summer Scholars (DHSS) Program is seeking nominations for candidates for this year’s cohort, and we would love to hear from you!

The 2023 DHSS program will be conducted virtually, via Zoom. Summer Scholars will meet for classes and labs multiple times weekly as a group to discuss readings and develop their research questions, as well as attend workshops dedicated to learning digital tools including Gephi, TimelineJS, R, ArcGIS, etc. Summer Scholars will present their final digital research projects at the end of the program during a recorded virtual event. Faculty nominations have greatly contributed to the success of the program in the past; please email Angela Perkins the name and contact information of the student(s) that you would like to recommend for this year’s program.

Prior to submitting an application, students must meet with Angela to discuss their research ideas and interests, as well as their experience (if any) with digital humanities, digital scholarship, filmmaking, digital art, computer science, web design, etc. Students who wish to apply will be given application instructions after their interview.

DHSS program applications are due March 31, 2023. Funded through the Lafayette Libraries, DHSS offers a $3,000 stipend for the program’s duration from May 17 – June 24, 2023. While the program will be held virtually, the cost of on-campus housing will also be covered for applicants who request it for the duration of the program. Applicants needing on campus housing should note that on their application. The application deadline is March 31, 2023. Applicants will be notified of their acceptance status by April 12, 2023.

Please contact Angela Perkins, Research and Instruction Librarian and director of the DHSS program, if you have DHSS student nominations, questions, or wish to contribute to this year’s program in any way. We are grateful for the wonderful support that we have enjoyed in the form of workshops, trainings, talks, mentorship, etc., that we have received from Lafayette College faculty. Your help is truly appreciated!
