In the fall Dining Service’s reusable container program is getting an upgrade that makes choosing to reuse even easier.

A new program called ReusePass will debut Aug. 20 in Upper Farinon and Marquis dining halls. The reusable containers help with campus sustainability efforts by reducing trash waste generated from takeout food containers. Plus, there’s no cost to participate!

How it works:
  • Sign up now with ReusePass so you’re ready to go when the semester begins. Go to ReusePass.com to create your free account. Tip: add your ReusePass QR code to Apple Wallet or screenshot for easy access.
  • In Upper Farinon or Marquis, use your unique ReusePass QR code to check out a reusable container. Each container will have a unique code on it that will link the container to your student ID. The cashier will also need to scan your Pard Card (Lafayette ID).
  • Enjoy your meal and return your container within three days.
  • After you’re finished, return the dirty container to the drop bin located near the cashier or dish return area, and use your Pard Card to get a new, clean container.
  • Containers not returned after three days will incur a $5/container fee on your student account.

ReusePass replaces the previous system which used carabiners in exchange for clamshells. Dining hopes to expand the program to other dining locations across campus in the future.

Staff, faculty, and students who don’t have a meal plan but would like to participate, can sign up in advance through ReusePass.com and bring their Pard Card to Upper Farinon or Marquis to receive a clamshell. (Meal purchases would be subject to a charge [$7.30 for breakfast, $12.85 for lunch, $18.10 for dinner service].)
