As the new academic year begins and with many departments hiring students for part-time positions on campus, it is important to understand the process for international students seeking first-time employment and needing to apply for a Social Security number (SSN). Review hiring guide and a sample employment offer letter. NOTE: Students may begin working once they have applied for their SSN, even while the card is pending.
The Office of International Student Advising and Support will provide students specific guidance on the application process via workshops and online resources beginning the first week of September.
Please keep in mind that F-1 students are limited to 20 hours per week when school is in session, and the position must provide a direct service for students on campus.
